The COVID-19 pandemic has forced movies to push their theatrical releases. One of the films affected is The New Mutants, which has been delayed many times. To make up for the long wait, cast members of the movie, along with director Josh Boone, premiered the movie’s opening scene during a Comic-Con@Home panel.
The movie was initially set for a release in April 2018 but was moved back to February 2019. With Dark Phoenix still in Fox’s hands at that time, The New Mutants was pushed back for an August 2019 release. After the Disney-Fox merger, the movie got an April 2020 theatrical release schedule. Then came the pandemic, which pushed the movie for an August 2020 release.
Other movies, however, like Mulan and Tenet have been delayed indefinitely by their respective studios. If theaters don’t open in August, we could see the new X-men movie postponed once more.
Set to be a horror superhero film, The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Anya Taylor-Joy (Split), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Alice Braga (City of God), Blu Hunt (The Originals), and Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why).
