Volvo to use Snapdragon platform for next-gen infotainment system


Volvo will use Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms to beef up the infotainment systems in some of its upcoming models, including the the Polestar 3 SUV and its upcoming electric SUV.

According to Qualcomm, its vehicle-focused CPU enhances in-car experiences, ranging from navigation and audio to all instrument clusters and cameras.

The partnership, announced at CES 2022, will bolster Volvo cars’ Android Automotive-based infotainment system by making it more responsive and more than twice as fast.

The Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms is designed to be a central hub for high-performance computing and is said to be capable of handling the graphics, audio, and AI needs of the upcoming Volvo vehicles—all while having a very low power consumption.

The collaboration between the two companies also includes future improvements to be rolled out over the air and over time. It also creates a solid foundation that enables Volvo Cars to continue delivering premium, connected, intelligent, and responsive in-car experiences in the future.
