Vivo V17 Pro review: Outstanding performer

Vivo V17 Pro

Smartphone makers face the tough challenge of making their devices stand out. Well, props to Vivo for coming up with a phone like the V17 Pro. This phone is the world’s first to have dual selfie cameras—a pop-up at that. It also boasts a plethora of functions that are sure to drive users to explore more of their imagination and capture more moments with ease.

While the V17 Pro sits on the more affordable side of the premium smartphone spectrum, it flaunts a design and construction that looks beyond its price. The Gorilla Glass body gives the phone a strong high-end feel while the slightly curved back offers a comfortable, ergonomic grip.

The V17 Pro’s display is a sight to behold. Thanks to the Super AMOLED FHD+ display, images are clear, crisp, and bright. Colors appear natural and viewing angle is good. The interface is easy to navigate, even for first-time Vivo users. Those who use Google Assistant will love that there’s a designated button for it at the left side of the device.

The 48MP quad-camera setup at the back produces some pretty fantastic shots. Thanks to the Sony IMX582 sensor, the colors come out richer than usual but still retains a natural overall look with sharper details and a more dynamic contrast.

Vivo V17 Pro

The V17 Pro can record in 4K at 60fps, and I must say video quality is quite amazing. However, I think you can get the best shooting quality at 1080p at 30fps settings as the sensors seem to have more time to render finer details and other quirks that make for a better, more consistent video footage.

The dual front shooters are in beauty mode by default. It automatically bumps up the brightness and smooths out some facial imperfections. The bokeh effect on the front camera comes out a little bit exaggerated at times during our testing; the background is sometimes indistinguishable, looking like a watercolor painting.

Under the hood is a pretty capable Snapdragon chip that can handle games such as PUBG Mobile or even the new Call of Duty Mobile in high graphics settings. I like that the phone doesn’t heat up easily, so expect a longer more comfortable gaming experience.

There’s enough space for all of your essential apps thanks to the V17 Pro’s huge internal storage. Its battery life ain’t no slouch either. The Vivo V17 Pro lasts up to a day of mixed use.
