Still, the first locally produced Viu Original Series and first Viu Original musical, follows the story of talented upcoming artists participating in Daloy Himig, a music camp that abruptly ends when the pandemic hit.
With quarantine protocols around the country, the campers are left stuck together in Balay, with only their music and each other to keep them company. Through song and stage, they hope to prove to the world that they still have a voice—that they still matter.
According to playwright and Palanca awardee Pat Valera (Dekada ’70 the Musical, Mula sa Buwan), Still is inspired by the theater industry’s current situation.
“During the first part of the pandemic, the artists, songwriters and poets shared works of what we were feeling. And we would find solace, hope from these works so naisip namin, ‘Bakit tayo lang ang nakakabasa nito?’ Syempre wala kaming platform, wala kaming lugar kung saan pwede namin itong ibig ipalabas,” he said during an online press conference.
“Pero, hindi pala totoo ‘yun kasi there are platforms like Viu where we can share our stories and things that people need to hear.”
The eight-episode series is directed by Treb Monteras (Respeto) and stars a powerhouse cast: Julie Anne San Jose as Laura; Gab Pangilinan as Sab; Gabby Padilla as Debbie, Lance Reblando as Leigh; Mike Shimamoto as Iggy; and Abe Autea as Tugs. Christian Bautista takes on the role of camp head and mentor Nikolas, while Bituin Escalante plays Annette, the owner of Balay.
“We are extremely honored and thrilled to be working with such a talented team that has produced a musical we hope impresses the world over. The story itself is relevant and we believe that Still will resonate with all of us who have gone through this pandemic,” Arianne Kader-Cu, Country Head of Viu Philippines, said.
Still is available now on Ticket2Me. New episodes will be made available every week—from Fridays 8 p.m. to Sundays 8 a.m. until the weekend of December 31.
