This app lets you buy fresh food directly from farmers

Agriculture plays a significant role in the Philippine economy, so it’s only but fitting that the agri industry is transformed and modernized into a dynamic and competitive sector.

One organization is stepping up to do just that by empowering farmers to sell before harvest.

Meet iFarms Inc., a Quezon City-based organization that developed the UMÁ app.

Founded and headed by entrepreneur Jairus Ferrer, iFarms seamlessly bridges the gap between farmers and entrepreneurs with its app designed to make digital agriculture trading easy, transparent, and more reliable for both farmers and buyers.

Papaya Tree Farms in Batangas partners with the Umá team: Product Designer Abbey Manliclic, President & Founder Jairus Ferrer, and Supply Chain
Manager Peter Domingo.

UMÁ, derived from the Bisaya, Hiligaynon, and Bikolano term for ‘farm,’ is a business-to-business (B2B) data-driven solutions platform that provides buyers with access to a wide range of farm produce from seasonal fruits and vegetables to seafood and native grains.

It gives UMÁ partner growers the opportunity to market their products, provide all relevant information, input their own competitive prices, and manage delivery schedules. UMÁ also allows businesses to connect directly to the growers to order and arrange deliveries. “This easy-to-use app is backed with a system that ensures orders are fulfilled from the farm to your doorstep, making the trading experience as seamless as possible,” Jairus said.

While he described arranging the logistics as challenging, the CEO said that they remain fueled by their goal to help farmers while delivering quality service to customers. “We want farmers to grow what the market needs at prices they’re willing to buy and for buyers to discover the best quality, reasonably priced goods.”

As a solution to agricultural problems like wastage and oversupply, UMÁ works through a process called “Sold Before Harvest.” Jairus expounded, “Ordering even before the produce is harvested allows our growers to anticipate logistical and operational activities, and to ensure the freshness of the produce delivered to businesses.”

The UMÁ app is available for download on Google Play Store for Android and soon on the App Store for iOS.
