Sharing an article on Twitter is one way to spark conversation on the platform. But do you really click and read through the piece before sharing it?

The micro-blogging platform is bringing a “read the article before you retweet it” prompt to all users soon. According to Twitter, this feature will “help promote informed discussion,” as some headlines can be misleading. This will also help promote media literacy among users on the platform, stopping them from instantly retweeting and making misinformation viral.

The prompt was first tested in June for Android users. The company learned that people read articles 40% more often after seeing the prompt. Also, people opening articles before retweeting increased by 33%.

Twitter has also been testing other features to make its platform friendlier like one that warns users before sending offensive replies and limiting who replies to tweets.
