DECODE 2021 tackles cybersecurity issues and how to address them


Over 1,200 cybersecurity experts and professionals joined DECODE 2021 cybersecurity conference on its first day.

Hosted by Trend Micro PH, the three-day virtual conference opened with four keynote sessions delivered by Jay Yaneza, Trend Micro’s Director of Global Operations for Managed XDR; Lauren Seawright, FBI Cyber Division Intelligence Analyst; Shane Cross, Cybercrime Directorate of INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) INTERPOL’s Head of Cybercrime Intelligence Unit; and Mel T. Migriño, Meralco’s VP and Group Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).

Following this year’s theme—DEC1DE. DEC0DE.the speakers discussed timely topics relevant in their respective roles in the cybersecurity industry. 

In his session, Trend Micro’s Yaneza discussed the importance of making critical, yet timely decisions in order to prevent or resolve threats.

To present another facet of the cybersecurity industry, Lauren Seawright went over the current threat landscape and how it has evolved both in the Philippines and globally in the past few years. She also gave valuable insights on current and foreseeable trends in how Philippine companies are combatting these attacks. 

Meanwhile, Shane Cross discussed how cybercrimes during the time of COVID-19 have evolved and other evolving threats in the current landscape. She emphasized the importance of cooperation with local enforcement to effectively and efficiently shut down such threats. 

Mel Migriño, on the other hand, discussed the role of the CISO (Chief Information Security Officer) and what qualities the “next-generation CISO” must possess.
