‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ final trailer teases an emotional good bye

Can Christmas come earlier? Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, premieres this December and it’s freshly dropped final trailer is quite the emotional roller coaster. It may or may not have made us tear up a bit so keep tissues nearby, Star Wars fans.

The Rise of Skywalker serves as the epic conclusion to the entire Skywalker saga, which dates back to the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope (1977). This flick is also the final film for the sequel trilogy, which started with The Force Awakens (2015).

The upcoming film picks up a year after the events of the The Last Jedi. What’s left of the Resistance must face the First Order again. While that happens, Rey faces off with Kylo Ren yet again, in the old Jedi vs. Sith fashion.

In addition to the good ol’ action scenes, the trailer tugs at its fandom’s heartstrings, teasing a farewell. It gets quite emotional as C-3PO tells Poe, Rey and Finn, “Taking one last look sir… At my friends.” Also shown in the teaser is the late Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa. Fun fact: the date for the trailer release just so happens to be Fisher’s birthday, October 21.

This movie, however, does not mean the end of Star Wars. Fans have spin-off shows and movies on Disney+ to look out for.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives in cinemas on December 20.
