As part of the #SafePH advocacy, Smart ensured availability and quick restoration of its services in calamity-hit areas. These areas include Albay and Benguet, among others.
In areas where communication services were limited due to damage, Smart offered free calls plus charging and wi-fi services. To further support these communities, Smart forged partnerships with international organizations like Vodafone Foundation and Nokia.
Vodafone provided emergency solutions when Typhoon Ompong hit Northern Luzon and triggered a deadly landslide in Benguet. The company set up free charging and wifi stations at the command center and retrieval site in Itogon. Responders, evacuees and family members of victims got to use these stations.
Nokia collaborated with Smart as connectivity partners in a program where they employed drones and network solutions for disaster response. The Nokia Saving Lives program seeks to provide communications tech and assistance to emergency response teams.
On the local front, Smart joins forces with the academe and local government units (LGUs) to educate youth about disaster preparedness. Through its TNT brand, Smart brought Tropang Ready disaster preparedness caravans to state colleges and universities all over the country.
The caravan recently won a prestigious Golden World Award under the Community Engagement category.
Smart also extended support during nationwide earthquake drills by providing various emergency communication facilities.
