Leagoo S9: A notch above the rest

Trends come and go when it comes to smartphone technology. This year, the notch display is one trends that dominated the smartphone industry. Popularized by the Apple iPhone X, the notch display has been adopted by many smartphone makers in their 2018 devices. From this year’s crowd of notch-totting phones, the Leagoo S9 stands out with its budget-friendly price and powerful performance.

The Leagoo S9 does not only resemble the iPhone X’s screen design, it sports the same vertical positioning of the rear cameras. It’s also as light as the iPhone X, but 1mm thicker than the Apple device. What differentiates this Android from the iPhone X is its glass-like acrylic rear panel with a glossy finish. It also follows a few of the iPhone X’s features such as the fingerprint scanner and the Face ID.

The S9’s Leagoo OS 4.0 makes the interface look like an old Android OS even though it’s already running on Android 8.1 Oreo. Albeit the looks of the OS, it can run graphics-heavy mobile games smoothly thanks to its 4GB RAM and powerful processor.

Watching videos on the Leagoo S9 is most enjoyable when you plug in your good pair of earphones. The device’s speakers don’t really provide good sound quality at its maximum volume. Although videos don’t fill the whole notch display on the S9, you can still enjoy around 6 hours of viewing before running out of battery.

Speaking of its battery life, the S9 charges pretty fast with its Pump Express fast charging technology, hitting 100% in 3 hours. But it takes a longer time when you charge the phone through your laptop.

The camera take good pictures provided there’s decent lighting. Its front camera, however, will remind you to not take selfies in low light. Its 65MP Ultra HD shooting feature is very impressive, but its SLR mode (similar to the Live Focus mode of other devices) fails to wow. Under this mode, subjects look like their background has been unrealistically blurred.

Speed says

If you’re looking for an Android phone with the extravagant look of the iPhone X and value performance, the Leagoo S9 is a wise choice. Especially since it has a great HD camera, can run your favorite games smoothly, and is one of the cheapest notch display phones in the market.
