Reasons to check out the all-new BMW 7 series

If you’re a busy body who’s always out and about for business meetings and constantly working even while on the road, the all-new BMW 7 series might be your (better) office away from office. BMW 7 series (2) The BMW 7 series finally launched in the Philippines last March 3, 2016 during a Gala Event held at the Grand Ballroom of the Shangri-La, The Fort. Dealers and members of the media flocked to catch a glimpse of the esteemed car maker’s latest luxury sedan.

Twin Titans

Arriving in the country are two variants of the sixth-generation 7 series, namely the BMW 740Li and 750Li. The BMW 740Li roars on the road with a six-cylinder in-line engine powered by BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology. Its crankcase, cylinder head and oil sump are made of aluminum, while its Twin Scroll turbocharger incorporates an indirect system of charge air cooling that works in tandem with a High Precision Direct Injection, the latest version of VALVETRONIC and Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing. The 740Li can blast away at 326hp at a maximum torque of up to 450Nm. It accelerates up to 100kph in merely 5.6 seconds. But this powerful core doesn’t compromise in energy efficiency. The 740Li has an average fuel consumption of 6.6 liters/100km, while its average CO2 emission is pinned at 154 g/km. Meanwhile, the BMW 750Li is engineered with a V8 4.4L displacement engine similarly bolstered by BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology. The turbochargers are strategically placed in the V-shaped space between the banks of cylinders. Under the hood are Twin Scroll turbochargers featuring flow-separated, bank-specific exhaust manifolds made from thin-wall casting. BMW 750Li (1)   The 750Li glides on the road with a 450hp power output and a maximum torque of up to 650Nm. It can roll up to 100kph in a rapid 4.7 seconds, but maintains an average fuel consumption of 8.0 liters/100km, and an average CO2 emission of 187 g/km.

Own your ride

Intelligent engineering was applied to reduce the weight of the new BMW 7 series. The weight was cut by up to 130kg thanks to the integration of a Carbon Core body structure, as well as the combination of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) with steel and aluminum. Designed to suit every driving style, the new 7 series is designed with a precision-honed chassis technology allowing drivers to customize their driving experience—be it in Comfort, Sport, or the new Adaptive mode, which adjusts according to the terrain and movement of the accelerator and steering wheel. BMW 740 Li (5) Anchoring the ride stability is an active chassis control system, the Executive Drive Pro. It works by combining the 2-axle air suspension and the Dynamic Damper Control to maintain suspension, damping, and vibration comfort. An electro-mechanic active roll stabilization system assists in taking sharp turns, while adjustable anti-roll bars support the vehicle’s overall suspension. A refined version of the Integral Active Steering system further backs the vehicle’s handling. Under this system, rear wheels assist in steering by turning in a different direction when gliding below 60kph, but roll back to the same direction when riding at high speeds to give the ride a “gliding” motion. The new series also comes with an iDrive operating system. Plus, it comes with BMW’s standard gesture control system for adjusting the audio volume, controlling the 3D surround view display, responding to incoming calls, and more.

Designed to awe

Giving the 7 series elegance are the outward-curving surfaces, door handles that shaped to form double swage lines, and overall accents that give off a balanced look with a low center of gravity. BMW 740Li Its interior is accentuated by horizontal surfaces and lines. Exquisite materials were also used to enhance its driver-focused cockpit. The 740Li dons an Exclusive Dakota leather trim, while the 750Li goes about with an Exclusive Nappa leather. Interior trim elements come in American Oak with a full leather surface for the instrument and door panels. Continuing the premium craftsmanship, cozy interior lights adorn the vehicle’s instrument panel, door beltlines, map pockets on the front seat backs, and the footwells. Courtesy lights, illuminated bars, and a Welcome Light Carpet further add to the overall feel-good ambiance. A Panorama glass roof sits by the roofline, while unique to the 750Li is the Sky Lounge Panorama glass roof, where LED modules illuminate the glass edges. An Ambient Air package fills the car with scents – with three levels of intensity and a choice among eight scents, two of which can be applied in the vehicle at the same time.

Intelligent Innovation

BMW makes sure its luxury ride is packed with advanced multimedia and security systems. Sitting inside the vehicle is a removable tablet that can be used in and out of the car to control comfort functions including seat adjustment, interior lighting and air conditioning, navigation and communication systems, and other multimedia controls. Tablet What’s a trip without tunes? The 750Li comes with a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, while the 740Li is integrated with a Harman Kardon surround sound system. A fully active 10-channel amplifier with 16 partially illuminated speakers can fill the cabin with acoustic love. Uncompromising safety, the 7 series is integrated multiple cameras for assisting its driver at the helm. A standard surround view camera system provides a 360-degree view around the vehicle, while the car’s BMW Laserlight guides you through every road. This lighting system has a high-beam range of up to 600 meters, twice the range of powerful LED headlights. Finally, the series comes with a touchscreen BMW display key that flashes various information about the vehicle’s status including time, remaining fuel and current range, service notifications, and central locking system status.
