Provincial bus ban in EDSA to resume in April

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA)’s provincial bus ban in EDSA is set to resume this April 2019. This was announced in a 24 Oras news report on February 6, 2019.

Initially implemented on August 15, 2018, the provincial bus ban aims to ease the traffic situation in Metro Manila. It was lifted in early October due to delays in constructing the Valenzuela, Parañaque, and Sta. Rosa terminals.

Once the provincial bus ban resumes, commuters coming from the North will have to get off in Valenzuela to take city buses going to the metro. Similarly, commuters from the South will disembark at the integrated terminal in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

The provincial bus ban also seeks to gradually remove the 46 provincial bus terminals along EDSA to further ease traffic. Eventually, the MMDA plans to put a fence along the stretch of EDSA, leaving openings only for the designated loading and unloading areas.

There are also talks of giving EDSA a “road diet” to improve the traffic situation and prevent vehicular accidents. This plan aims to add more motorcycle lanes by narrowing down the width of existing lanes.
