In 2019, cinemas were graced with sequels and remakes, along with a couple of brilliant fresh stories (but mostly the former than the latter). Will we be seeing more of the same this 2020? So far, what we’re expecting is a lot of heroines in the spotlight (see: Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Widow). But these new trailers for upcoming movies are giving us hope that 2020 is shaping up to be an exciting year for movies.
Here are some must-see trailers for this year’s slated films.
The French Dispatch
Picturesque shots of buildings: check. Pastel palettes: check. A stellar ensemble cast consisting of Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, and more: check. The French Dispatch is quintessential Wes Anderson in every sense. The eclectic director’s “love letter to journalists” tells the story of a fictional New Yorker magazine and its published stories. The film comes out on July 24.
Stranger Things 4
Netflix dropped a bombshell with this new trailer. A character who we thought was dead looks to be alive and—er, in Russia. The streaming giant has yet to announce the release date, but we can probably expect the fourth season of Stranger Things to come out in the middle of the year.
We finally got a first look at Robert Pattinson as Batman! It’s not even a full trailer yet (nor is the movie coming out in 2020), but this teaser gains a spot in this list because we are hyped to see what the new caped crusader’s going to look like.
The Green Knight
Dev Patel stars in this medieval fantasy film based on the poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Scheduled for a May 2020 release, this movie follows the story of King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, Sir Gawain, as he confronts a green-skinned creature.
The Personal History of David Copperfield
David Copperfield’s story is one of grit and perseverance. He bounces from poverty to having everything and having nothing again. It’s quite the ride, actually. Prepare for a hilarious, refreshing take on a Charles Dickens’ classic novel.
