Buzz Lightyear trailer gives a glimpse of iconic toy’s origin story

If you grew up in the ’90s, there’s a high chance you were swept by the bravery (or peeved by the overconfidence) of Buzz Lightyear too many times while watching Toy Story.

Now, Pixar is bringing the beloved space ranger back to infinity and beyond with its own action-adventure film titled “Lightyear.”

In its trailer released on Wednesday, October 27, Pixar is taking viewers on a short but impressive look at how a real interstellar space explorer inspired the creation of the cartoon and toys.

This “definitive origin story,” according to Pixar, also shows how the legendary astronaut “would win generations of fans,” both with his exploits and the toy he inspired.

Former Captain America Chris Evans will voice the real Buzz whose toy version was voiced by Tim Allen in all four of Toy Story films.

Though Evans hardly talked in the trailer, the Avengers star expressed his immense “joy and gratitude” for being part of the film in a tweet yesterday.

Lightyear is directed by Annie Award-winner Angus MacLane (Finding Dory) and produced by Galyn Susman (Toy Story That Time Forgot). It is set to arrive in theaters abroad on June 17, 2022.
