Nintendo announces Zelda sequel ‘Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity’

There’s a new Legend of Zelda game coming soon. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is set 100 years before the events of 2017’s Breath of the Wild. This hack-and-slash Zelda game will arrive for the Nintendo Switch on November 20.

The game, developed by Nintendo and Koei Tecmo games, follows the same art style and gameplay as BotW. This time, players will step into Hyrule to fight hordes of enemies before the Great Calamity. They’ll be able to play as Link, Zelda, and the four Champions: Daruk, Mipha, Revali, and Urbosa.

Nintendo says the game will provide “a robust story that depicts the events, relationships and dramatic moments of the Great Calamity in captivating detail.”

In this action game, players will “solve environmental puzzles, unlock weapons and skills, craft materials, visit shops to obtain items and use the power of the Sheikah Slate.”

In 2019, Nintendo announced a sequel to Breath of the Wild. According to Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma, it will be a separate game from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. “You’ll have to wait a bit longer,” he said regarding the sequel.
