Remitly expands money remittance services to OFWs in Europe
OFWs working in select European countries can now enjoy the many benefits of sending remittances through Remitly, the largest independent digital remittance company in North America, which has established its roots here in the Philippines since 2011.
Last September, Remitly announced its expansion to Europe. It added 12 new countries to its roster, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom—making its service available to a total of 15 countries, including the United States, Canada, and Australia.
Remitly has partnered with Stripe, a payment processing platform that will help take care of transactions in various European currencies while minimizing friction. This partnership also enables Remitly to introduce new technology features such as Dual Currency transactions, wherein customers from abroad can send their money in USD, CAD, or AUD and the recipient in the Philippines can cash them in USD or PHP.
Stripe has also enabled Remitly to service Filipino seafarers, who essentially make up about a third of the workforce on cruise ships. Even while they are away at sea, seafarers can send money to their families back home using a phone or computer, so long as they can get an internet connection. This way, the can pay little to no fees and skip the long lines at kiosks or money transfer agents when they’re at port.
Remitly’s global network of partners supports money transfers into bank accounts, home delivery, or cash pick-ups. In the Philippines, Remitly has over 10,000 cash pick-up location partners across the country, including Banco De Oro, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Metrobank, Philippine National Bank, M Lhuillier, Cebuana Lhuillier, LBC, SM Department Store, Globe, Villarica Pawnshop, Palawan Pawnshop, and Bayad Center among others.
