3 reasons to get excited for the live-action Aladdin

This May 22, a new generation will be introduced to the magical tale of Aladdin. Then there’s those of us who grew up on the 1992 animated version of the film. Although we already know the story, we’re still excited to see our favorite characters and songs come to life again. Before we sing along to A Whole New World next week at the cinemas, let’s count down the ways we’re excited for the new live-action Aladdin.

Agrabah, a sight to behold

The world of Aladdin is, well, as the song says, shining, shimmering, and splendid. Prepare to be in awe of Agrabah in real life which took inspiration from elements in the Middle East and South Asia. With Director Guy Ritchie at the helm and Emmy Award-winning set designer Gemma Jackson, we can expect to see a colorful world. In addition to Agrabah, there’s the mystical Cave of Wonders. We wait to get a seat on the magic carpet to see all the sights the live action movie has in store.

A new spin on all our favorite songs

When you talk about Aladdin, you can’t avoid bringing up the movie’s music. Director Ritchie stayed faithful to the film’s musical roots and brought back award-winning composer Alan Menken back on board for the live-action iteration.

Are you ready to hear A Whole New World, Prince Ali, Friend Like Me, Arabian Nights and more? Recently, Filipino singers Darren Espanto and Morissette collaborated with Disney on a cover of “A Whole New World“. Check their version out and let them serenade you.

The colorful cast

Since the movie’s first release in 1992, its characters have always stood out. These characters are brought to life by Mena Massoud as Aladdin or Prince Ali, Naomi Scott as the beautiful and courageous Princess Jasmine, and Marwan Kenzari as the evil Jafar. Furthermore, there’s a lot resting on Will Smith’s shoulders as he takes on the larger-than-life role as the Genie.
