Netflix looks to be working on an audio update geared toward Apple users. The streaming giant is rumored to be working on adopting spatial audio support with AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.
iPhoneSoft says the feature has been in testing since December, with a rollout coming in the next few months. A handful of titles are also being optimized to support the feature.
Spatial audio is a feature Apple first launched with iOS 14 last year. It creates an immersive 3D audio experience, which dynamically tracks the user’s head and pumps sounds from different directions accordingly to keep the sound field consistent. Currently, the feature is only available on the AirPods Pro and the recently announced AirPods Max.
Netflix isn’t the first to bring this kind of audio upgrade. Other streaming platforms have added spatial audio support for their apps, such as Apple TV+ and Disney+. As of press time, Netflix has not said anything about when the upgrade is rolling out.
