Mi devices can now detect heart rates through their camera

Last year, Xiaomi introduced the Mi Health to serve as a primary app to store all health information gathered from Mi devices. With MIUI 12, Xiaomi brings new features with improvements for the step counter, sleep tracking, sedentary reminder, and heart rate monitoring through a Mi phone’s camera.

To use the feature, open up then new Heart rate section in the app. The app will ask you to completely block the camera and flash on your device with a finger. Hold index finger on the lens until the progress bar reaches 100%. Just make sure to clean the lens after.

The app will let you chose from three options: General status, Resting state, and After exercise. The test report will show your heart rate and an illustration highlighting whether your heart rate is slow, normal, or fast. It will also show your heart rate data collected over a period of time.

Here’s the feature in action.

According to XDA Developers, this new feature will roll out with version 2.7.4 of the Mi Health app.
