Isuzu Philippines has launched the much-awaited 2022 mu-X SUV in the local market on Wednesday, September 22. The second generation of Isuzu’s seven-seater SUV exudes quintessential luxury while retaining the brand’s heritage when it comes to reliability and power.
This iteration of the mu-X is what the Japanese automaker claims to be the most driver-centric and luxurious it has ever made. Thoughtful features can be found from front to end, starting with the leather-wrapped steering wheel, which was reduced from 382 mm to 375 mm for a more comfortable driving position and easier maneuverability.
The B-Pillars were adjusted forward by 25 mm for additional legroom and now have assist handles for extra support when boarding in and out of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the C-Pillars are made narrower, and its rear quarter bottom glass edge lowered so drivers have a larger field of view.
Second- and third-row seats have wider seat cushions and larger headrests, while still allowing child seat mounting. The inner door trims and armrests are covered with thick, soft materials and were re-shaped to maximize occupant comfort.
As for the infotainment and connectivity, the All-New mu-X now has a 10.1-inch full touchscreen display compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has an eight-speaker system with JVC Kenwood tweeters mounted unto the rear doors for enhanced sound quality even from the back.
Functionality and storage solutions were also developed in detail. The mu-X is equipped with power outlets not only at the lower dash up front, but now, also at the center console that has a dedicated 220V and dual 2.4A USB charging ports for passengers who need to charge their gadgets on the go. There are also 12 cup holders and the second row features a slide-away tray the can hold smartphones.
This SUV assures that you have ample space good for 7 adults plus luggage or weekend gear as needed. The compartment can fit a full-size golf bag horizontally, while the roof rails are built with increased load capacity from 60 kgs to 100 kgs.
At the heart of the All-New mu-X is the new 4JJ3-TCX turbo engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This drivetrain produced 190 PS of power and 450 Nm of torque for smooth, effortless acceleration even when you need to carry or tow a heavy load.
Meanwhile, specific variants equipped with the RZ4E-TC engine now have improved performance due to better exhaust emission creating lower levels of noise and vibration while further increasing engine reliability and fuel economy.
The chassis of this latest model of the mu-X also now has larger side rails and has been reinforced through an 8-Cross Member design to increase torsional rigidity and safety in the event of a collision. Not only that, both front and back suspensions have been redesigned to minimize body rolls when cornering.
Built to conquer any terrain with ease, the mu-X is equipped with Terrain Command Select Dial that lets the driver switch between 2WD-high and 4WD-high when driving at 100kph, or select 4WD-low to further increase traction and control.
For off-road enthusiasts, the Rough Terrain Mode will maximize drivability when navigating through challenging and slippery conditions.
On top of that, the vehicle is loaded with Isuzu’s five-star Advance Driver Assist System comprising of 12 safety functions, including Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Turn Assist, Manual Speed Limiter, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Multi-Collision Brake.
The 2022 Isuzu mu-X comes in three variants—Luxury Style, Luxury Style Advance, and top-of-the-line Luxury Style Elegance—in addition to a range of colors: Onyx Black, Mercury Silver, Splash White, and the new Marrakesh Brown and Satin White Pearl.
