Instagram is removing its Following tab, which shows you your friends’ activity on the app.
First introduced in 2011, the Following tab allowed users to see what posts other people are liking and commenting on and who they’re following. It aimed to help people find more accounts to follow.
Instagram’s head of product Vishal Shah told BuzzFeed News that it was removing the feature because the company suspects not many users know it exists.
“People didn’t always know that their activity is surfacing. So you have a case where it’s not serving the use case you built if for, but it’s also causing people to be surprised when their activity is showing up,” Shah said.
With the tab gone, users will only see one tab for their notifications when they tap on the heart icon on the app.
In addition, Instagram recently launched its Threads messaging app, meant for sharing texts and photos with close friends.
