At Auto Shanghai 2021, Huawei officially announced the first electric vehicle it will have for its “1+8+N” ecosystem: the Seres SF5. Built by Chinese automaker Seres, the extended-range EV is powered mostly by Huawei’s technology.
“This exciting announcement sets a precedent for both the consumer electronics industry and the new energy vehicle industry,” said Huawei Executive Director Richard Yu. “In the future, we will not only provide leading smart car solutions to help partners build better intelligent vehicles, but also help them sell those vehicles through our retail network across China.”
High-performance beast with Huawei technologies
In response to consumers’ range anxiety about electric vehicles, Huawei and Seres have created a new electric drive range extension system. Equipped with Huawei DriveONE Three-in-One Electric Drive, the new Seres SF5 offers flexibility for users, with a range of 150km in pure electric mode to meet the needs of daily city commuters, and a range of over 1,000km in extended-range mode for long-distance travelers.
The SF5 can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 4.68 seconds and boasts of an aluminum chassis, 4-ball joint double-wishbone front suspension, and a trapezoidal multi-link rear suspension for the best in comfort. The high-performance capabilities boast 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.68s.
Huawei HiCar solutions enable users to seamlessly switch between their mobile phone applications to the vehicle’s central control panel, enabling access to navigation, music, and more. This provides entirely new user experiences: the music on your phone can be continued seamlessly when you get in the car. It also provides interactive voice control, allowing users to focus purely on driving. HUAWEI HiCar can also connect the car to other smart devices, so users in the car can turn on the A/C, smart screen, and other connected devices at home.
The vehicle’s three-dimensional surround audio system consists of 11 sound units, tuned by Huawei Sound core technicians and acoustic experts. Together with the vehicle’s NVH (noise-vibration-harshness)level—a library-level silence of 38dB—the audio system delivers authentic and immersive opera-like sound quality.
The Seres SF5 also has a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) rescue recharge mode, which can provide emergency power to isolated vehicles. It also provides vehicle-to-load (V2L) camping power supply mode to power induction cookers, stereos, and other equipment.
The new Seres SF5 is available in four colors: Deep Ocean Blue, Charcoal Black, Pearl White, and Titanium Silver Grey. It is available in China in four-wheel drive at 246,800 CNY (P1.8M) and two-wheel drive at 216,800 CNY (P1.6M). No news of the unit’s distribution in the Philippines has been confirmed yet.
