The legendary Hogwarts trio is back for a magical reunion. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson are coming together for Harry Potter’s 20th anniversary special premiering on HBO Max on New Year’s Day.
Titled Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, the retrospective will feature behind-the-scenes footage, in-depth interviews, and cast conversations as they look back on all eight films of the franchise.
The show’s executive producer Casey Patterson told Variety that fans can expect to feel the “magic in the air,” as the special was filmed on “the original sets of Hogwarts, where they began 20 years ago.”
Apart from Radcliffe, who portrayed the titular character, Grint, who played Ron Weasley, and Watson, who played Hermione Granger, the special will feature other fan favorites, including Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge), James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood).
Author J.K. Rowling will not appear in the special but will be featured in archival footage.
After its release on HBO Max, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will also air on WarnerMedia’s TBS and Cartoon Network sometime between March and June 2022, ahead of the premiere of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
Viewers in the Philippines can catch it when it drops on the same day on HBO Go.
