First ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ trailer takes us back in time

Wonder woman 1984

It looks like the first few weeks of December is all about superwomen. Marvel dropped the first teaser for Black Widow, and DC follows suit as it premiered the trailer for Wonder Woman 1984.

Gal Gadot is back and this time her Wonder Woman is rocking the 80s. It’s been 40 years since the events of the first movie, and Diana Prince faces loneliness, having lost her friends over the years.

While battling in the Cold War, our lasso-wielding heroine comes across Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig), an archaeologist who channels powers from ancient goddess Cheetah. Those familiar with the comics know Cheetah as one of Diana’s archenemies.

To many fans’ surprise, Wonder Woman’s love interest Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) is alive and kicking. The trailer doesn’t quite offer any explanation as to how he’s back. However, it also teases a new big bad: Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord.

Wonder Woman 1984 is set to hit cinemas on June 5, 2020. It joins DC’s lineup of upcoming 2020 movies, which includes Birds of Prey.
