Facebook looking to rebrand Instagram, WhatsApp

Facebook wants you to know that Instagram and WhatsApp is theirs. How does the social media giant plan to do this? By adding its name to both apps. Soon, the rebranding will turn the apps to “Instagram from Facebook” and “WhatsApp from Facebook.” Doesn’t that sound like a mouthful?

“We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook,” a Facebook spokesperson tells The Information. The new names will appear for both the App Store and Google Play. Will the apps appear with the additional name on our home screens, too? Not yet, but we can expect to see the longer label soon.

This isn’t the first instance of rebranding done by the social giant. VR tech company Oculus already got the “from Facebook” treatment.

As of the moment, Facebook has yet to announce when the changes will take effect.
