Disney drops official teaser for live-action Mulan
While the rest of the world was busy debating about The Little Mermaid live adaptation casting, Disney dropped the first trailer for the live-action Mulan. From the trailer alone, it seems like this remake won’t be like the other ones.
Starring in this live-action adaptation is Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei. And based on the teaser, we can expect the familiar tale of Mulan. Her family takes her to a matchmaker who shows her how to act like the perfect wife. Instead of living the life of a trophy wife, however, Mulan chooses to become a warrior. Our heroine dresses as a man to fight in the war and bring honor to her family.
The trailer also teases other storylines from the classic, like the Reflection sequence, Mulan training to defeat the Huns, and more. However, it looks like this iteration of the film won’t feature the iconic songs from the classic. Some characters were cut from the remake, too, like Mushu the Dragon and Mulan’s love interest Shang. So for those wondering, no, Mulan won’t be a shot-for-shot adaptation. Watch the trailer below.
In addition, the movie features a majority Asian cast including Rogue One’s Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, Jet Li, and more.
The upcoming remake pays homage to China’s Hua Mulan, a legendary Chinese warrior the Disney princess was based on.
Mulan is set to hit the big screen in March 2020. Until then, we have other live-action Disney movies to look forward to like The Lion King.
