BAIC Philippines introduces new BJ20, M50S

BAIC Philippines introduced two new automotive marvels to its vehicle lineup: the BAIC BJ20 and the BAIC M50S. The BJ20 is a compact crossover sport utility vehicle and is the entry-level model in BAIC’s Bravo line of rugged and edgy SUVs. Meanwhile, the M50S multi-purpose vehicle is a fine-tuned configuration of the company’s popular M20 MPV platform.

The renegade BJ20

The BJ20 sports a futuristic, functional, and rugged look with a classic boxy form factor. In front is a feisty grille-work, flanked by round headlights with blue-toned reflector discs. Above the main lights are Daylight Running Lights (DLRs) and below them are park lights that are embedded in its big-boned bumper.

The flanks are deeply ridged in straight lines and are complemented by a straight-running roof line and straight-topped fender wells. The BJ20’s big wheel accents flow into the sideguards and generous rear bumper. A keen soft-roader, this crossover SUV has a ground clearance of 215mm and large 225/55 tires on 18″ alloy rims.

The BJ20 has a front-mounted, Euro 5-compliant Mitsubishi 4A9IT turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine with MIVEC VVT system and front wheel drive. The engine delivers peak power of 147hp at 6000rpm at a 210Nm torque. These are complemented with McPherson struts up front and multi-links at the back.

A more refined M50S

BAIC improved its popular M20 three-row MPV with the M50S. The M50S features a roomy, three-row rambler with tall, boxy cabin that can accommodate 2+3+3 adults in its 8-seat version with a middle row bench, or 2+2+3 on the 7-seat variant with bucket seats in the middle. The seats are also made from and eco-friendly microfiber leather.

Powering this MPV is the tried and tested DAM15DL 1.5L Euro 5 gasoline engine that delivers 114hp of peak power and 150Nm of maximum torque through an advanced dual variable valve timing (DVVT).

The BAIC M50S retains the 2790mm wheelbase, and features an electrically assisted steering, easy-to-navigate infotainment system, and reversing camera with sharp wide angle optics.

The BAIC BJ20 is priced at P1,148,000 for the 1.5L Turbo CVT Standard variant and P1,288,000 for the 1.5L Turbo CVt Luxury edition. Meanwhile, the BAIC M50Sretails for P638,000 for the 7- or 8-seater Luxury variant, and P668,000 for the 7-seater Ultra Luxury version.
