The new ASUS ROG Phone 3 takes mobile gaming to a whole new level. It’s the nearest you’ll ever get to a gaming PC (so far) for a phone. You can control the chipset’s clock speed and throttling threshold, optimize your screen and audio, and customize charging.

The ROG Phone 3 boasts the new Snapdragon 865+ chipset, one of the first Android phones to do so. This chip can hit 3.09GHz and supports Wi-Fi 6E and 5G. It comes paired with 12GB RAM (which can be boosted up to 16GB) with up to 512GB of storage.

The phone sports a 6.59-inch AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate. This can be changed to 120Hz or 90Hz in the settings to whichever is most efficient.

Getting the full gaming experience

Another big improvement is the AirTrigger 3 system, a set of pressure-sensitive touch sensors located around the edge of the phone. It’ll make the phone feel like you’re using a real controller, similar to Xiaomi Black Shark’s air triggers. These ultrasonic shoulder buttons are also customizable; you can split them into two buttons (like L1, L2, R1, and R2).

The device is designed with landscape use in mind so there’s a side-mounted USB-C port for charging while playing and the speakers are front-firing. There’s no 3.5mm jack on the phone itself, but there are accessories like the AeroActive Cooler, which provides the audio jack. The AeroActive Cooler, which comes in the retail package, provides a cooler for the phone’s vent.

For all-day gaming, the ROG Phone 3 packs a 6,000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging.

Furthermore, the newest gaming phone is fitted with a triple camera setup with a 64MP main shooter, a 13MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro sensor. In front, there’s a 24MP selfie camera on its bezeled top part.

Gamers can amplify the gaming experience on the smartphone with accessories such as the ROG Kunai 3 controller, detachable Gaming grip, TwinView Dock 3, and the ROG Lighting Armor Case 3.

ASUS has yet to share the price of the ROG Phone 3 but since last year’s model was $899 (P44,000) at launch, we can expect it to be around the same price or higher.
