iPhone users have been complaining about FaceID—how can they unlock their phone when they’re wearing face masks? They have been forced to enter their passcode each time they pull out their phone. Good news is that Apple is coming up with a solution for this. But there’s a big caveat: you need to have an Apple Watch.

First reported by Pocket-lint, the iOS 14.5 update will bring a feature where you can use your Apple Watch to unlock your iPhone. Both devices need to be in proximity with each other for it to work. Once you wake your iPhone screen, you’ll feel a nudge of haptic feedback on your Watch to indicate that the phone has been unlocked.

This feature will work with Apple Pay, App Store purchases, and Safari password autofill.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this trick in action as Apple already offers it on the Mac.

Other enhancements coming in iOS 14.5/iPadOS 14.5 include Siri updates, support for latest-gen Xbox and PlayStation controllers, App Tracking, and 5G global dual SIM support.
