Since its arrival in the Philippines in 1996, the Honda City has always been known for its smart style, spacious interior, and practicality. Honda couldn’t have given a better name for a no-nonsense, well, city car.

Over the years, the City became more refined while maintaining its practical appeal, helping it become one of the bestselling nameplates in Honda Cars Philippines, Inc.’s (HCPI) lineup. Which is why it’s but fitting to unveil the 5th-generation of the City on HCPI’s 30th anniversary month, looking sharper and better than ever.

Longer, wider, and lower than its predecessor, this all-new model sports a bold grille flanked by swept-back headlights with LED daytime running lights. At the rear are great-looking horizontal taillights that extend toward the vehicle’s sides.

The City comes in four variants, headlined by the top-spec RS CVT. This sportier version comes with high-gloss black honeycomb grille with an RS logo emblem, sporty front bumper and grille, black power folding door mirrors with integrated side turn signals, gloss black trunk spoiler, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, it’s still a spacious cabin, but with upgraded features such as push-to-start ignition and speed-sensing door locks across all variants. All trims, save for the 1.5 S MT, get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and WebLink.

There’s also a new air conditioning design with rotary knobs, digital display, and illumination. On top of that, the 1.5 RS and 1.5 V CVT come with rear ventilation.

For safety, the City scores an impressive 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating. Vehicle stability assist with agile handling assist, emergency stop signal, ABS with EBD, and hill start assist are standard across the range. The RS and CVT variants are equipped with a multi-view rear camera.

The Honda City is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder DOHC gasoline engine capable of 119hp and 145Nm of torque. This is mated to a continuously variable transmission. The S trim, however, offers a choice between a CVT and a six-speed manual transmission.

The Honda City is now available at all 34 Honda dealerships nationwide. Here are the special introductory suggested retail prices (October 22-December 31, 2020):

  • 1.5 S MT – P838,000
  • 1.5 S CVT – P878,000
  • 1.5 V CVT – P968,000
  • 1.5 RS CVT – P1,048,000
