It didn’t take long for Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) to fill in the void that the Honda Jazz left. Honda’s automobile business unit in the Philippines officially launched the all-new Honda City Hatchback today through a virtual event streamed via HCPI’s Facebook page.

From the front, the five-door hatch looks like its sedan sibling—sporting similar headlights, grille, and front bumper. From the central pillars to the back, however, it’s a totally different car. There’s a longer roof, a rear door, slim, wraparound taillights, an integrated tailgate spoiler, and rounded off bumpers. It wears 16-inch two-tone Berlina Black aluminum alloy wheels.

The City Hatchback retains the 2600mm wheelbase of the City sedan. However, given its form factor, the hatchback version is 21mm taller and 204mm shorter than its sedan counterpart.

The lone available variant in the country is the 1.5 RS CVT. The 1.5-liter 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine produces a maximum power output of 119hp at 6,600rpm and 145Nm at 4,300 rpm. The engine is mated to continuously variable transmission that delivers a smooth, refined, and powerful yet fuel-efficient driving performance while allowing for an engaging driving experience via paddle shifters. Honda’s Eco Assist System, which consists of the ECON mode and Eco-Coaching Ambient Light, is available to help promote fuel efficient driving.

The spacious cabin features suede-and-leather seats, black interior trims with red stitching and accents, leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel with audio controls, front and rear center armrests, sports pedals, and multi-information display with red illumination.

There’s also an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth with two USB ports, plus an eight-speaker system.

Like the Jazz, the all-new City Hatchback comes with Honda’s signature ULTR seating system, which allows the rear seats to be folded flat or flipped up.

Safety features include G-Force Control (G-CON) body structure that helps to protect the vehicle’s cabin during collisions from any direction, vehicle stability assist (VSA) with agile handling assist (AHA), emergency stop signal, ABS with EBD, hill-start assist and multi-view rear camera with dynamic guidelines. In addition, the City Hatchback also comes with six airbags—dual front airbags, front driver and passenger side airbags, and side curtain airbags.

The all-new City Hatchback is now available at all 38 Honda dealerships nationwide for P1,115,000 (exclusive of P13,000 Safeguard Duty Cash deposit) and comes in Ignite Red Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, and Platinum White Pearl (additional P20,000). A Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic paint job will be available by June 2021.
