Keanu Reeves to star in Cyberpunk 2077

It seems Keanu Reeves has found himself a new gig.

After the recent success of his John Wick films and his return to comedy in a cameo role in Netflix’s Always Be My Maybe, the 54-year-old actor is going to be in a video game next year.

The Canadian actor is set to appear in Cyberpunk 2077 as “Rockerboy” Johnny Silverhand, a non-playable character. The game, which will be published by Polish company CD Projekt Red, is slated for an April 16, 2020 release. The announcement was made at Microsoft’s E3 press conference in Los Angeles.

To the delight of gamers and fans, Keanu made a surprise appearance at the event to promote the new game.

Keanu surprises E3 audience

Reeves talked about his excitement for Cyberpunk. The actor shared, “A while back, the guys from CD Projekt Red approached me and asked me to be a part of their new project: Cyberpunk 2077. They were going on and on about how they’d create this vast open world with a branching storyline, how you’d be able to customize your character with in-game choices, and it’s not something I knew before but I was excited by.”

This is not the first time Reeves’ likeness will appear in a video game. This first occurred in the 1991 NES game Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. In the same year, digital Keanu appeared in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Game Boy Adventure: A Bogus Journey. In subsequent years, he would appear in Bram Stoker’s Dracula on SNES, Johnny Mnemonic: The Interactive Action Movie on PC, and The Matrix: Path of Neo.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be playable on Xbox One, PS4, and PC starting April 16, 2020. It is currently available for pre-order at the Xbox Store for $250.
